Windows Live Mail 2011 - Add to or Edit Safe Senders List

SUMMARY: Add to or edit the list of e-mail addresses in Windows Live Mail 2011 from which received e-mail will not be marked as Junk.

Nowadays with the large amounts of junk electronic mail filling our Inboxes, it is imperative to use at least some anti-spam features to avoid getting deluged with this menace.

Unfortunately, even the most intelligent junk e-mail filters can mark some legitimate messages as spam. Thus to help avoid missing important information, you can mark certain address in Windows Live Mail 2011 as "safe". E-mail from this whitelist of addresses will not be marked as Junk.

1. While viewing e-mail, click the "Home" tab in the Ribbon.

2. In the "Delete" section of the Ribbon, click the "Junk" button.

3. Select "Safety options" from the pull-down menu.

4. The "Safety Options" dialog box appears.

To add an address / domain to this list:

1. Click the "Add" button.

2. The "Add address or domain" dialog box appears. Either enter a full domain or a specific e-mail address to mark as safe.

1. Click on an address / domain in the list.

2. Click the "Edit" buttn.

4. Click "OK" to apply the edit.

To delete an address / domain from the list:

1. Click on an address / domain in the list.

2. Click the "Remove" button.

When done with your edits:

Click "OK" to close the "Safety Options" dialog box.

You may occasionally receive an e-mail via Windows Live Mail 2011 that comes with a Read Receipt request. This is done by the sender to help ensure their messages actually make it to their destinations.

While there are many valid reasons for people to ask for read receipts, you may be concerned about privacy and never want to answer these requests. Thus, instead of always responding no to read receipt requests, you can quickly configure the software to ignore these silently:

1. From the main Windows Live Mail 2011 window, click the menu button in the Ribbon.

2. Select "Options", then "Mail" from the pop-up menu.

Windows 7 - Disable Automatic Error / Problem Reporting

SUMMARY: Prevent Windows 7 from automatically contacting Microsoft or prompting you to contact Microsoft whenever a software / hardware / operating system error or problem is detected.

Depending on your Windows 7 configuration, whenever a problem or error is detected in software, hardware, or the operating system, a problem report may be sent to Microsoft. This way, if solutions are later available such as an updated hardware driver, you will be notified and possibly provided a download link.

For various reasons including privacy concerns, you may not wish this automatic or prompted sending of information to occur. To disable automatic checking for solutions:

1. Click the "Start" button.

2. Type "report problems".

3. Click "Choose how to report problems" when it appears.

4. The "Problem Reports Settings" window appears. Click the "Never check for solutions (not recommended)" radio button. Or, if you still occasionally want to check for solutions but always want to be prompted beforehand, click the "Each time a problem occurs, ask me before checking for solutions" radio button.

5. Click "OK" to close the window. Or, if you need to adjust this setting for multiple users, click the "Change report settings for all users" link first to display a "Problem Reporting" dialog box. Then choose your desired setting and click "OK" to close the windows.

Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 - Remove EXIF Tags When Publishing to Facebook, Flickr

SUMMARY: Remove file metadata such as EXIF tags when uploading photos and videos to Facebook, Flickr, Windows Live, or other services via Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011.

When uploading photos via Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 to "the cloud", such as to Facebook, Flickr, or Windows Live, files may have embedded hidden metadata. These details may include the camera manufacturer, snapshot parameters such as the exposure time, or GPS location information. An example is the JPEG format, which may contain EXIF or other metadata.

If you'd rather this information not be published, you may want to use external software to manually remove the information from your files. Or, keep this information in your file copies, but have Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 remove all metadata before publishing:

1. Click the menu button near the top-left of the Gallery window.

2. Select "Options" from the pop-up menu.

Or, just press Alt + F then O.

3. The "Windows Live Photo Gallery Options" dialog box appears. Click the "Publish" tab.

4. Underneath "Publish settings", click the "Remove all file details" radio button. Note that you can click "Include all file details except for the following" and manually check/uncheck detail groups, but as the software warns you, that option may not remove all appropriate metadata.
